Some favourite Genealogical Web Sites

Here are a few of my favourite web sites for genealogical research:

www.ancestry.ca

This site is very good and has a lot of resources.  It gives you access (for a fee, of course) to the Drouin records which are a fantastic source of information for anyone with roots in Quebec.  One of these days i will pay for access to the “Global” database.  I will let you know how that turns out,

www.automatedgenealogy.com

This web site gives you free access to several Canadian census including 1852, 1901 and 1911.   According to the 1901 census there were no Robineau’s in the Nipissing district  (i.e. Sturgeon Falls) in 1901, but 32 in1911.  A couple of families moved from Western Quebec to Sturgeon Falls in the early 1900’s.  What attracted them to Sturgeon Falls:  the big city lights, gold, fortune, fame…Stay tuned for further details.

www.FamilyTreeMagazine.com

This is a good site for basic knowledge on genealogy and it includes a much more extensive listing of the best genealogy sites.
