St. Roch Church

Cathedrale St. Roch - Paris

St. Roch church is at 284 Rue St. Honoree in Paris within a very short walking distance of the Louvres Museum.  The first stone of the church of Saint-Roch was laid by Louis XIV in 1653, accompanied by his mother Anne of Austria.  The church was not finished until the early 1700’s.  According to the church website in the 17th century the district where the church is was populated by rich and “elegant” people.  Pierre Corneille was a French tragedian, and one of the three great seventeenth-century French dramatists, along with Molière and Racine.  He was buried in the church in 1684, the year after Michel was baptized there.  The Marquis de Sade was married in this church in 1763.
